Received Pronunciation - Received Pronunciation (RP) is a form of pronunciation of the English language which has been the prestige British accent (see prestige dialect). RP is a form of English English, sometimes defined as the "educated spoken English of southeastern England".
Pronunciation respelling for English - Many dictionaries and other language references give pronunciation guides for some or all words listed. Most British English dictionaries now use the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) for these, and represent Received Pronunciation.
General American - General American (sometimes called Standard Midwestern) is the accent of American English perceived by Americans to be most "neutral" and free of regional characteristics. The General American accent is not thought of as a linguistic standard in the sense that Received Pronunciation (RP) has historically been the standard, prestige variant in England, but its speakers are perceived as "accentless" by most Americans.
